The social issue that I am researching is teens and eating disorders. I know that many teens suffer from eating disorders, and that it is a horriable illness to have to live with. At this point I dont believe that it is wrong or evil to have an eating disorder, however, it is unhealthy. Teens with eating disorders, boys and girls, have distorted views and body images of themselves, and most likely others. I feel as if the idea of eating disorders come from the media, that display the image of actors and actresses who are very skinny, or thin. These actors are looked upon by most teens as role models, and set an example weather posative or negative. Eating disorders are also caused by peer pressure, or fitting in. If being frineds with the "right" people was'nt such an issue for teens, eating disorders may be much less of a problem than what they are today. During this project, I would like to find out what else goes through teens minds with eating disorders, and if they are aware of the other alternatives to eating disorders. Furthermore I would like to learn how these teens are affected for the rest of their lives from their eating disorders, and how the different severitys of the disorder may change the persons life.
